L4: Broadcasting a Live Event
[inline:5broadcast_new.gif]
Broadcasting a live event involves broadcasting a face-to-face class, meeting, presentation, etc, to an audience. This is a difficult application for Adobe Connect, and a great deal of planning, preparation, and expertise is required.
Depending on whether the audience will be dispersed and logging in individually or gathered together, be sure to read L3: Presenting to a Dispersed Audience and/or L3: Presenting to a Gathered Audience under Hosting Meetings.
If the audience is both dispersed and gathered, this scenario is covered in the Complete Mixed Meeting Hosting Guide under Hosting Meetings.
Level of Expertise
Examples
- Broadcasting a face-to-face class to students logging in remotely
- Broadcasting a presentation or meeting to an audience gathered in a remote meeting room
Meeting Activities
- Host broadcasts audio and video
- Display files in the Share pod
- Use the whiteboard
- Use Note pods for notes, questions, comments
- Use File Share pod to distribute files
- Use Chat pod to take questions from remote Attendees
Opportunities
- Live presentations can be more widely available without having to travel to the location
- Remote audience can post questions via chat.
- Session can be recorded for others to watch asynchronously.
Limitations
- Requires planning and practice
- Adds a level of technical support to event. If you are using live video, the support person must keep the camera trained on presenter and adjust microphone(s); may also need to load and show A/V materials
- Need to plan for necessary A/V equipment and allow time to set up and tear down as well as time to set up and test the equipment to be sure it will be adequate for the room
- Additional moderator is needed to monitor text chat so remote audience can participate
- Multiple Presenters at the face-to-face location adds additional tasks, i.e., collecting files to upload in advance, helping people who have never used Adobe Connect
- Strategies for taking questions from both audiences are needed, i.e., Will there need to be a microphone for questions from the audience? Will the presenter just repeat the question?
- Remote audience may encounter extraneous room noise and audio problems
- Presenter must be comfortable presenting within Adobe Connect interface OR
- Support must take responsibility for loading presentation into Adobe Connect and advancing slides for remote audience to see (so that presenter is not responsible for Adobe Connect presentation)
