Playing DVD in Breeze

Recieved this very interesting question that I would share with everyone

I am a user of the Breeze system for web meetings, and have use the share pod for sharing powerpoint files. I have also used the share my computer screen and that works for me as well. However when sharing my computer screen, I tried running a DVD in the .IFO filetype, and I could see it, but the participants in the meeting could not. Can you tell me what I need to do in order for the participants in the meeting to see the DVD running on my computer?

More Suggestions for Showing Video

There is a thread at the Adobe sponsored Users' Group site about showing video by sharing your desktop or application. Although it's not usually a good idea to share video this way because of bandwidth issues, apparently it is possible -- but results aren't necessarily dependable.

RE: Playing DVD

Great question! I think many may be wondering about this also.

Playing DVD’s across a network, at best, is usually erratic due to differences in bandwidth required to render the video and audio. Playing a DVD through Adobe Connect or for that matter any conferencing software, increases the frame rate decay because of the compression and decompression necessary to transmit the data. In addition, playing the DVD locally and “Sharing” the video in a screen share pod adds yet another layer. The audio portion is often not transmitted because the DVD input uses a different channel than the microphone input. While you may hear the audio, your audience may not. What I would suggest is to identify short clips that you would like to present, capture those clips, convert them to .flv (Flash movies) then upload the clips. As an alternative, the clips could be converted, loaded to a streaming server and hyperlink to those and allow the streaming server handle the distribution. As always, caution for copyright infringement must be used whenever digital media is transmitted across the network.
