When applying for a job, possessing technology skills has become a requirement rather than an additional qualification. If you are interested in further developing your technology knowledge, there are multiple avenues to pursue.

One option available to students for developing technology skills is an electronic portfolio, which can contain your resume, interests and/or hobbies. Additional information regarding electronic portfolios is available at http://portfolio.psu.edu . If you are interested in more extensive e-Portfolio training, you may be interested in enrolling in EM SC 300 (Professional e-Portfolio Development). Examples of e-Portfolios are provided at http://portfolio.psu.edu/gallery/index.html.

Another possibility for students is to utilize Adobe Connect. On the community home page, Penn State students, faculty members, staff members, and friends of Penn State can post to the online community. For example, you could post a question or reply to a question already posed.

Students may also consider including a recorded Adobe Connect meeting in their e-Portfolio. Information on how to record an Adobe Connect meeting is provided at http://meeting.psu.edu/recording . Adobe Connect can help a student develop the necessary skills to conduct an on-line meeting. By participating in an Adobe Connect meeting, students can demonstrate their organizational skills and learn how to upload various types of materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, that can be accessible to those attending the meeting. Tutorials describing how to use Adobe Connect are available under the New Adobe Connect Pro Tutorials will be Posted in January 2008 announcement, which is available at http://meeting.psu.edu/ .

By working with a faculty or staff advisor, students can obtain access to the meeting; however, undergraduate students are not allowed to either own or create their own meeting room. Both undergraduate and graduate students can be hosts in a meeting, which allows them to display multiple technology skills. By recording the Adobe Connect meeting, the student can provide a potential employer with the URL, so that the employer can view the meeting. If you are interested in additional information concerning students’ access to Adobe Connect meetings, this information is available at http://meeting.psu.edu/faq#general10 and in the Adobe Connect Meeting Room for Students announcement at http://meeting.psu.edu/.
