Audio Conferencing with Adobe Connect

We recently received the following question, and we thought the answer would be beneficial to many of you.

Question:

"I hold a weekly web conference and for the first time experienced a site where their internet was down and they were unable to connect. I would like to add the phone conference portion to my meeting and need advice on how to proceed. Do I just set up a phone conference through phone services or how does it work to have phone and web participants? They would NOT have a VOIP phone as they are NOT PSU employees and the participants are located around the state of PA."

Answer:

There are several audio conferencing options available. To incorporate an Adobe Connect meeting with an audio conference meeting, you would need to use an Andrea Telephone Interface.
The conferencing options are:

(1) Meet-Me Conferencing - This is a University Park extension that needs to be reserved through our Call Center. In short, we would assign a dial-in number for all the participants to call. There is no charge for the use of the bridge; however, anyone calling long-distance would pay for their own long-distance fees just as they would be making a regular call to University Park.

(2) Operator Assist Conferencing - The Call Center operator would call each participant and add them to the conference. For scheduling, you would need to obtain and provide the phone numbers where each participant can be reached at the time of the call. There is a $35.00 operator assist set-up fee + all long distance charges are billed to the department. The participants would not pay for anything.

(3) AT&T Reservation-less Conferencing - A designated dial number and conference ID is given to you for use at anytime 24/7 365. There is no need to schedule the use after the ID has been assigned. An individual toll-free dial-in number will be assigned. All participants would dial-in to the toll-free number. A purchase card is needed to set-up an account. The usage for the bridge is 0.06 per participant. The usage charges are automatically billed to the purchase card with an invoice directly from AT&T being mailed the 1st and 15th of the month.

You can call the Penn State Call Center at 865-4700 to arrange any of the above conferences. You may also want to visit our website at http://css.its.psu.edu/callcenter/audconf.html. The Andrea Telephone Interface is available for approximately $100.00. See the post at http://meeting.psu.edu/node/275 for more information.
