Audio Problems?

I have received a couple of reports of audio problems with the Penn State implementation of Adobe Connect when using VoIP. Are others having problems? When responding, please include as much detail as possible about circumstances under which the problem occurred and steps you tried for resolving the problem.

Audio issues still happening

Along with having connection problems today (called Help Desk and sent in an email), we also continue to have intermittent audio problems. MANY more than we used to have in the previous version. We are currently in a training and 1 participant (on a PSU campus) has very choppy audio from the instructor. We've checked our connection speed, set to DSL/Cable. Everyone did run through the Audio Setup Wizard.

I know that Yvonne mentioned that other universities who are using Adobe Connect v7 are experiencing similar problems and that Adobe is looking into them.

Hopefully soon these issues can be resolved. The College of Ag Sciences which emcompasses all 67 county Cooperative Extension offices use Adobe Connect extensively and with gas prices on the rise, we will be using it more and more. --peg shuffstall

Adobe Connect v7: audio issues

Well, I'm not happy to hear that others are experiencing the same problems as we are but misery does love company sometimes.

The Educational Technologists have experienced some audio issues between a couple of people on the VoIP call but NOT all participants experience the same choppiness. We held a What's New training with about 10 participants and 2 hosts. One of the hosts and 2 of the participants experienced choppy audio from one of the participants but the other host and participant heard the audio fine.

We heard from one of the Penn State ETS staff that maybe it was caused because we had turned on our video first before actually using our audio. I haven't had time to test that theory though.

RE: Audio Problems?

Thursday morning I was in a session with one presenter, 2 hosts, and 15 participants that was using VoIP. The hosts and presenter was connected via wireless (54mps) while the participants were hardwired. Everything seemed to go pretty good. We only used share pods and no screen sharing, and one did have video. We did have the number of speakers set at Voice-on one speaker.

Audio issues with Connect 7 at Indiana University

I sent the following message to the Big 10 Connect-Admin listserv two weeks ago, but I didn't receive any responses so I assumed we were the only ones seeing this problem. We have since been able to reproduce the bug for Connect support folks on one of Adobe's servers. They have acknowledged that there is an issue but haven't given us a timetable for the fix. Because of this, Indiana University will postpone our upgrade to Connect 7 that was planned for next week. We'll consider upgrading at Christmas if the issue is resolved by then. Below is the summary of where we were a few weeks ago. If you'd like an update or would like some outsiders to test with, let me know.

Hello Connect Admins:

At Indiana University we're preparing to upgrade to Connect 7 in August. In our initial testing, we're seeing significant audio issues and I'm wondering if you've seen these problems as well. Here's the basic issue:

In a meeting with multiple participants using VOIP (all on a known-good high bandwidth network), audio will become choppy/drop out from certain participants to certain other participants. So A and B will hear C fine, but D is getting poor audio from C. Meanwhile, C and D hear A fine, but B is getting choppy audio from A. Who gets clear/bad audio from whom seems to change on a whim. Latency is low for everyone and the server is under almost no load at all. It doesn't seem to be an audio transmission problem on the speaker's computer because some participants hear just fine.

With a little testing we determined that the problem seems to start when participants join the VOIP conversation by way of turning on their camera first (which automatically turns on their mic too). If they instead lock the talk button on at the bottom, then turn on their camera, their audio is fine. We've seen this problem in both clustered and single-server configurations. In fact, I just did a clean install of Connect 7 on a single server, created a meeting room, and the problem exist with only two participants using VOIP in the meeting room.

I'm going to open a ticket with Adobe, but I wanted to check with other admins as well. Any thoughts?

Thanks much!

We Don't Get Responses Either

Penn State also belongs to the Big 10 Connect-Admin list. We have never gotten a response to anything we have posted there either. There is a national sub-group associated with this online community with about 35 members across 20 non-profit educational institutions. This group formed somewhat spontaneously. We originally joined together to collaborate on creating training materials, but have since expanded into a support group as well. Sharing information about V.7 has been the "value-added" element that has created additional interaction. I'm not sure what the difference is between the Big 10 list and this online community's national sub-group and why there's interaction with one but not the other......
