Incorporate Hands-on without Dual Monitors?

I am conducting training sessions on how to use a software application via Adobe Connect. Right now, the sessions are in a lecture format and I share my screen to show the participants how to accomplish a task step-by-step.

However, I would like the session to be "hands-on" for the participants so as I show them a step, they can do the same thing within their software. I know that this can be easily accomplished if the participants have a second monitor, but none of our staff has this luxury. Is there any other way that I can make this a hands-on session without a second monitor?

Hands on without Dual Monitors

Hi,
It sounds like the issue is with the amount of screen real estate available to display both the Adobe Connect window and the application window at the same time. While this is possible the amount of success will depend somewhat on the computer savvy of the individual user. What I have done is have the user switch windows by minimize and maximise the application window to the task bar and switching back and forth. I would give a reasonable amount of time for the user to try something, then have them return Adobe Connect.

Please feel free to call me to discuss this more. As Jacki states, AgIT has been using this training method ever since Yvonne Clark showed us Adobe Connect. We have Cooperative Extension offices across the state that we teah via Connect two-three times per week. We find Adobe Connect a very useful training tool. --peg shuffstall (814-865-0031)

In AG IT, we offer 90% of our hands-on training via Adobe Connect. We have been doing this for about 3 years now. We incorporate exercise time after we demo and discuss a specific task during the lesson. During the exercise time, staff minimize their AC window, open their application and then they do the exercise. We ask if their have questions during the 5-10 minutes of exercise time, then regroup and bring them all back to the Adobe Connect window to continue with the next lesson.

We do re-interate with staff that they need to minimize and NOT close the AC window. Most experienced AC users have no problems with this.
